Shirdi temple collects Rs 2.32 cr in 6 days; old notes galore

MUMBAI: The demonetisation of high currency notes has led to a bumper collection for the popular pilgrimage centre of Shirdi, where the collection in the Sai temple donation box has risen to over Rs 2 crore in the last six days. "In the last six days, devotees offered Rs 2.32 crore in the temple donation box, including several thousand notes of the now scrapped Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denominations," a temple trust official said. The windfall includes 9,218 notes of old Rs 500, and 3,258 notes of Rs 1,000 denomination. The donation also includes 1,100 notes of Rs 2,000 and 51 of Rs 500 in the new denomination.
