PM Modi & Other Leaders Pay Homage To Bhagat Singh, Rajguru & Sukhdev On Martyrs Day

The day marks 91 years of the death of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev who laid their lives during the freedom struggle of India against British rule.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev on the occasion of Martyr’s day.

In a tweet, he wrote, “Tributes to the immortal sons of Mother India, Veer Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru on Martyrs' Day. His passion to die for the motherland will always inspire the countrymen. Long live India!”

On the other hand, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also paid tribute to these martyrs via Twitter. He tweeted, “Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru are the thoughts that will remain immortal forever. Whenever a voice will be raised against injustice, these martyrs will have an expression in that voice. In the heart which will have the desire to die for the country, the name of these three heroes will be in that heart. #ShaheedDiwas”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted, “Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru are such strong pillars of the Indian independence movement, whose patriotism and devotion to the motherland not only instilled the spirit of independence in people against the atrocities of foreign rule, but is an inspiration for Indians even today.”

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted, “I remember and bow to the revolutionaries Sardar Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, who sacrificed their lives to free Mother India from the shackles of slavery, on their 'Martyr's Day'. The sacrifice of these revolutionaries in the struggle for freedom will always inspire the people of India.”

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann also paid homage to the freedom fighters via a tweet in Punjabi. He wrote, “I pay homage to the unparalleled martyrdom of Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev. Let's make Punjab a corruption-free, prosperous, and golden Punjab by realizing the dreams of the great martyrs who laid down their precious lives for the freedom of the country,” in a loosely translated tweet.

Meanwhile, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu also extended homage to the freedom fighters saying, “My humble tributes to the valiant freedom fighters, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru & Sukhdev on their #MartyrdomDay. Their indomitable spirit & love for motherland ignited the spark of patriotism among countless Indians. The nation is eternally indebted to them for their supreme sacrifice.”

The day marks 91 years of the death of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev who laid their lives during the freedom struggle of India against British rule.

On March 23, 1931, these freedom fighters were hanged to death for a purported attack in British Parliament in Lahore.
