Sea Water Enters Kochi Villages Amid Incessant Rains In Kerala | WATCH

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a yellow alert in most of the districts for next three days predicting isolated heavy rainfall.

New Delhi: Incessant rain has thrown life out of gear, keeping villagers on their toes in the coastal areas of Kerala. As per reports, several families, including those settled in the vulnerable coastal zones, were shifted to safer locations with the help of disaster management authorities.

Amid the inclement weather conditions, sea water entered the coastal villages of Kochi following water logging due to constant sea erosion.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a yellow alert in most of the districts for next three days predicting isolated heavy rainfall. Following the alert, the state government has deployed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams in Idukki, Wayanad and Kozhikode districts.

According to a report by news agency PTI, parts of the southern state has been receiving heavy rainfall over the last few days and as per the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), six people have died across the state due to rain-related incidents since July 3.

As per SDMA, Thrissur has opened two camps while Alappuzha and Ernakulam have one each, lodging 58 inmates.

"Four people have been killed in Idukki district while one person each died in Malappuram and Kozhikode districts," PTI quoted a senior SDMA official as saying.

A total of 11 houses have completely been damaged, while 20 houses were partially damaged from July 3 to 7 in Kerala.

Kasaragod and Kannur district administrations have declared holiday to all the educational institutions, including professional colleges on July 8. Idukki District collector declared a holiday on Friday for educational institutions under Devikulam Taluk.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan cautioned people living in hilly areas in view of the yellow alert.

"There are reports that the water level in Kadalundi, Bharathapuzha, Shiriya, Karavannur, and Gayathri rivers of northern Kerala are rising. Similarly the water level in Vamanapuram, Neyyar, Karamana, kallada, Manimala and Meenachil rivers is also rising," Vijayan said in a Facebook post.

He added that a red alert has been issued around the regions of lower Periyar, Kallarkutti dams under state Electricity Board.
