BJP Expels Karnataka MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal For 6 Years

Previously, Basangouda Yatnal, known for his outspoken nature and history of rebellion, had reportedly made remarks that embarrassed the party’s leadership.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled Karnataka MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal for six years over alleged anti-party activities, marking the third time the controversial leader has been removed from the party.

The order issued by the CDC member Om Pathak said, as per PTI, "Central Disciplinary Committee of the party has considered your response to the show cause notice dated 10 February 2025 and has taken serious note of your repeated violation of the party discipline, despite your assurances of good behavior and conduct in response to earlier show cause notices."

"It has accordingly been decided to expel you for a period of six years with immediate effect from the primary membership of the party and you stand removed from any party position that you may hold until now,” it added.

Yatnal was critical of former CM BS Yediyurappa and his son BY Vijayendra by calling it "dynasty politics". However, Vijayendra said that Yatnal's expulsion was an "unfortunate necessity".

Basangouda Yatnal Previous Expulsion

This is not the time time the former MLA was expelled from the party. In December last year, a show-cause notice was issued to him for criticising the state BJP leadership. Yatnal, known for his outspoken nature and history of rebellion, had reportedly made remarks that embarrassed the party’s leadership, triggering disciplinary action.

This isn’t the first time Yatnal has faced expulsion. In 2015, he was removed after contesting the Vijayapura double-member Legislative Council election as a rebel candidate, defying the party’s decision. Despite multiple warnings, he refused to withdraw his nomination, leading to his removal by then-state BJP president Pralhad Joshi.

The latest expulsion is expected to stir political ripples in Karnataka as Yatnal has a strong local influence and has often been a vocal critic of both state and central BJP leadership.
