Supreme Court bars nomination of Anglo-Indian MLA in Karnataka Assembly

The strength of the Karnataka Assembly is 224 and nomination of one Anglo-Indian member takes it to 225.

NEW DELHI: After the Congress-JD(S) combine on Thursday moved the Supreme Court against the decision of Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala to nominate an Anglo-Indian member to the Assembly, the Supreme Court today barred the nomination. The court ordered the Governor not to nominate any Anglo-Indian community member as MLA till the floor test is over. Previously, the Congress-JD(S) sought that the nomination of Anglo-Indian Vinisha Nero by the Governor be set aside till Yeddyurappa underwent a floor test in the House to prove his majority. The strength of the Karnataka Assembly is 224 and nomination of one Anglo-Indian member would have taken it to 225.
