New Delhi: Kitchens distributing free food are going to be inaugurated on 9th August in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The first of such kitchens, known as "Prabhu ki Rasoi," will feed 300 poor people initially. The food will be offered free to the downtrodden. A committee of 30 people, including officials and civilians, will be responsible for running the kitchen.
The Yogi Adityanath government took the step in order to eradicate the problem of hunger and poverty. The kitchens will be set up on the lines of 'Amma canteens' in Tamil Nadu, which will help the poor get at least one dignified meal every day.
Saharanpur commissioner Deepak Agarwal said that civil society and industry are being mobilised to make the initiative successful. He added that businessmen have also been asked to contribute in order to feed the poor and the response has been welcoming.
For the first month, the class one officers of Saharanpur have pledged to contribute Rs 2,100 each which will cover the cost of running the kitchen initially. To begin with, a meal of rice, vegetables, and dal will be served to the empty stomachs. It will be served from noon to 2 pm every day.
Agarwal also added that he along with his team members has written to all trusts and volunteer associations to help them with the initiative. It was pleasing to see organisations volunteering to feed the pilgrims.
He further informed that two municipal corporation halls in Saharanpur will be used for the kitchen. Also, a local manufacturer of skimmed milk powder, SMC Foods Ltd., has offered to pitch in for setting up the kitchen.
People will also be served chapatis once the chapati-making machines are installed. The number of machines has already been ordered.
