Indian Embassy In Ukraine To Resume Operations In Kyiv From May 17: MEA

The Indian Embassy in Ukraine was temporarily operating from Warsaw in Poland since mid-March.

New Delhi: The Indian Embassy in Ukraine, which was temporarily shifted to Poland's Warsaw following the Russian invasion of the war-torn country, will resume its operations in Kyiv from May 17, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday.

"The Indian Embassy in Ukraine, which was temporarily operating out of Warsaw (Poland), would be resuming its operation in Kyiv with effect from May 17," the Ministry of External Affairs said.

The Indian Embassy in Ukraine was temporarily operating from Warsaw in Poland since March 13.

The development comes after several Western countries have decided to reopen their missions in the Ukrainian capital.

India had decided to relocate the embassy to Poland due to the deteriorating security situation in Ukraine. In March, the Russian military offensive had reached the borders of Kyiv.

India relocated the embassy after bringing back over 20,000 of its nationals from Ukraine under 'Operation Ganga', which was launched on February 26 in the wake of the war in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, India abstained in the UN Human Rights Council on a resolution on the deteriorating human rights situation in Ukraine. In the resolution, the UNHRC reiterated its demand for an immediate cessation of military hostilities. The UNHRC resolution was adopted by a vote of 33 in favour, China and Eritrea voting against and 12 abstentions.

"We remain deeply concerned at the unfolding developments in Ukraine. We have constantly called for immediate cessation of violence and an urgent end to hostilities," PTI quoted India's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Indra Mani Pandey as saying.
