Ramdev Gets 3 Days From Court To Remove Statements Claiming Coronil Cures Covid

The Delhi High Court on Monday directed Baba Ramdev to remove his statements claiming that Patanjali's Coronil is a cure for Covid-19 virus and allopathy was responsible for deaths during COVID-19.

The Delhi High Court on Monday directed Baba Ramdev to remove his statements claiming that Patanjali's Coronil is a cure for Covid-19 virus and allopathy was responsible for deaths of lakhs of people in COVID-19.

A bench of Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani gave Ramdev three days time to take down the offending content from social media.

The court has further said that in case Ramdev fails to take down the statements within three days, the social media intermediaries shall take down the same.

A detailed order will be uploaded in some time on the high court website.

In 2021, after Ramdev made claims that covid-19 can be cured by Patanjali's Coronil and allopathic medicines prescribed by Doctors caused deaths from Covid-19, many doctors moved court against Ramdev.

It was alleged that Baba Ramdev was misleading public at large by spreading misinformation, which is prompting them to not get hospitalised.

It was contended that Baba Ramdev was creating doubts in the minds of people about the efficacy of not only allopathic treatment but also other Covid-19 vaccines. Given his influence on people, Ramdev's statements can make a huge impact on the public. It was argued that public might become skeptical of allopathy which is prescribed as a standard form of care even by the Government.

The case by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) against disparaging statements by Baba Ramdev is still going on in the Supreme Court. Baba Ramdev has allready issued appology and taken back misleading advertisements about his products. The case is still going on in the top court.

The petitioners in Delhi High Court included, three Resident Doctors Association of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Rishikesh, Patna and Bhubaneswa. The Doctors Associations at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh, Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College, Meerut and associations from Telangana, Hyderabad, Punjab also moved against Ramdev.
