Rajya Sabha Polls 2020: Ruling State Parties Bag Victories, Know Who Won, Who Lost

According to the reports in states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, a close contest was observed as the two parties — Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress locked horns in a fierce battle to win maximum seats.

New Delhi: Voting for 19 Rajya Sabha seats from 8 states took place on Friday June 20, at 9 am and concluded at 4 pm. The counting of the votes which began at 5 pm concluded with ruling state parties from Meghalaya, Mizoram slaying the results smoothly. Here's the state wise result tally of Rajya Sabha Polls 2020:  Andhra Pradesh: Andhra Pradesh on Friday registered a major victory as the ruling YSR Congress bagged all the four seats. As per the reports, Deputy CM Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana, industrialist Parimal Nathwani and realtor Ayodhya Rami Reddy of the YSRC got 38 votes each. Gujarat: Though the counting of votes was delayed, the results have turned out sweet for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party as its candidates Narhari Amin, Ajay Bhardwaj, Ramilaben Bara won three seats. Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil could manage only one Rajya Sabha seat. Congress was already on the backfoot after three of its MLAs resigned in June and five in March this year. Congress candidates KC Venugopal and Neeraj Dangi, and BJP's Rajendra Gehlot were declared the winners to the Rajya Sabha by Returning Officer and Assembly Secretary PK Mathur after the votes were counted. Out of Rajasthan's 200 assembly members, two did not turn up for the voting. Madhya Pradesh: In Madhya Pradesh, BJP manages to won two seats for itself while Congress could bag only one. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates Jyotiraditya Scindia and Sumer Singh Solanki registered victories on two seats while Digvijaya Singh slayed away with one Rajya Sabha seat. Jharakhand: In Jharkhand, the Congress was hoping that Chief Minister Soren will muster the numbers. However, BJP's Deepak Prakash and JMM's Shibu Soren smoothly entered the Rajya Sabha polls and won one seat each. Mangibabu. Meghalaya: The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) sponsored National People's Party candidate W.R. Kharlukhi won the sole seat from the state with 39 votes against Congress candiate Kennedy Khyriem who could manage only 19 votes. Mizoram: In the 40-member Mizoram Assembly, ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) candidate K. Vanlalvena won the lone Rajya Sabha seat with 27 votes. In the Mizoram Assembly, the MNF has 27 members, ZPM seven, Congress five, and the BJP has one MLA.
