Rainfall In Delhi Brings Temp Down. IMD Predicts Pleasant Weather In Punjab, Haryana, UP In Next 5 Days

The minimum temperature in Delhi settled at 24.4 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal as the national capital received 13 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours.

New Delhi: Heavy rainfall for the second consecutive day brought mercury down by a few notches in Delhi on Saturday, ushering in the much-awaited respite from the scorching heat. The national capital woke up to a pleasant weather with temperature dropped drastically from over 40 degrees Celsius over the last few days to less than 35 degrees Celsius, news agency ANI reported. Relieved from the sweltering heatwave, the Delhiites welcomed the downpour and took to the social media to share pictures and videos.

In its latest forecast, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that due to scattered to fairly widespread rainfall in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, the weather in these places is likely to remain pleasant over the next five days.

As per IMD prediction, the national capital is likely to experience a ‘generally cloudy sky with moderate rain’ on Saturday.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the weather office said, “Under the influence of Western Disturbance at middle tropospheric levels and southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea to northwest India at lower tropospheric levels: Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning very likely over the Western Himalayan region (Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit- Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand); scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over adjoining plains (Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Uttar Pradesh) and isolated rainfall over Rajasthan during the next five days.”

It further added, “Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi on June 17 and over Punjab on June 17, 18 and June 20.”

As per reports, the weather is expected to clear from June 22. However, the IMD has not yet announced any tentative date regarding the onset of monsoon in the national capital.

Earlier in the day, Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC), New Delhi, predicted thunderstorms with moderate intensity rain over and adjoining areas of Delhi and NCR.

"Thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds with speed of 30-40 Km/h would occur over and adjoining areas of entire Delhi and NCR (Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida," RWFC said in a tweet.
