Will Rain Play Spoilsport On Chhath Puja In Delhi NCR? Check IMD's Forecast For Next 5 Days

IMD predicts smog in Delhi during Chhath Puja festivities. Heavy rainfall is also likely in southern India for the next four days.

IMD Weather Alert: Amid Chhath festivities underway in several parts of the country, the slight drop in temperature along with smog in the air during the morning could cast a shadow on the celebrations in Delhi. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued weather alerts for several parts of southern India, where torrential rains are likely to continue for the next four days.

In its forecast for Delhi and the national capital region (NCR), IMD, in its latest bulletin, predicted mainly clear skies till November 9 but said that smog or mist is likely to persist in the air during the morning hours and night. Fervent celebrations of Chhath Puja enter the third day on Thursday, with devotees across India, especially Delhi, UP, Jharkhand and Bihar, observing fasts for the health and prosperity of their children, offering prayers and rituals for their happiness and success in life.

IMD Forecast For Next 4 Days

November 7: As per the Met department, heavy rainfall (≥ 7 cm) is very likely at isolated places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are very likely at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, IMD said.

It also predicted squally weather with wind speed 35-45 kmph, gusting to 55 kmph over western parts of west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, along and off the south Andhra Pradesh coast and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coast. 

November 8: The weather agency said heavy rainfall (≥ 7 cm) is very likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala.

"Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning very likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Coastal Andhra Pradesh," it said. 

"Squally weather with wind speed 35-45 kmph, gusting to 55 kmph are very likely over along and off south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts and adjoining sea area," IMD added. 

November 9: Heavy rainfall (≥ 7 cm) is again predicted at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. IMD said thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also very likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

November 10: IMD predicted heavy rainfall (≥ 7 cm) at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. It also said thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

November 11: NO WARNING.
