Rain Relief For Tamil Nadu: IMD Forecasts Showers In Chennai, 10 Other Districts
Despite the anticipated rainfall, high humidity levels combined with above-normal minimum temperatures by 2-4°C may cause discomfort in some other parts of Tamil Nadu.

Parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, are set to experience rainfall on Saturday, bringing much-needed relief from the summer heat, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). However, despite the anticipated rainfall, high humidity levels combined with above-normal minimum temperatures by 2-4°C may cause discomfort.
The forecast suggests light to moderate rainfall across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, with heavy showers expected in isolated locations, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tenkasi, and Kanyakumari. Thunderstorms and lightning may also occur in certain areas prompting the issuance of a yellow alert for districts expecting intense rainfall.

In Chennai, residents can expect light to moderate rain coupled with thunderstorms in a few areas. It said, "Light/Moderate rain with thunderstorm and lightning is likely to occur in some areas."
The maximum temperature will be 34-35°C while the minimum temperature will be 25-26°C.
Reason For Weather Change
The IMD report highlights that a cyclonic circulation over southwest Madhya Pradesh is extending down to South Interior Karnataka, influencing wind patterns and contributing to moisture buildup. Additionally, a trough in the easterlies extends from the Comorin area to South Tamil Nadu, bringing moisture-laden winds from the east, which are expected to trigger rainfall in the region.
Meanwhile, the IMD has also warned that high humidity, coupled with persistently high temperatures, could lead to uncomfortable weather conditions in some parts of the state. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, and stay updated with weather forecasts for further advisories.
