Rahul Gandhi To Visit Kashmir On Friday, Congress To Hold Candlelight Marches Over Pahalgam Attack

Rahul Gandhi had cut short his visit to the US to attend the crucial meeting of the Congress Working Committee held earlier on Thursday. He also attended an all-party meeting called by the government.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Jammu and Kashmir on Friday and meet those injured in the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people were killed.

Gandhi will visit the Government Medical College (GMC) in Anantnag to enquire about the health of the injured, PTI quoted Congress sources as saying.

26 people, mostly tourists, were killed and several injured after terrorists opened fire at a meadow near Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Tuesday.

Gandhi had cut short his visit to the US to attend the crucial meeting of the Congress Working Committee held earlier on Thursday. He also attended an all-party meeting called by the government to brief parties on the horrific terror attack.

On Thursday, Gandhi attended the all-party meeting, which was called by the NDA government and chaired by Union Minister Rajnath Singh. During the all-party meeting, all the political leaders unanimously supported the action taken by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) with regard to Pakistan, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said.

The Government made it clear in the meeting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government will have zero tolerance towards terrorist activities in our country.

After attending the all-party meeting, Rahul Gandhi said, "Everyone condemned the Pahalgam Terrorist Attack. The opposition has given full support to the government to take any action."

Meanwhile, Congress workers across all states and districts will take out candlelight marches on Friday in solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.

The party has also decided to postpone its "Samvidhan Bachao" rallies that were scheduled for April 25 and 26, party general secretary in-charge organisation K C Venugopal said. The "Samvidhan Bachao" rallies will resume from April 27, he added.

The Congress had last week announced its plan to hold "Samvidhan Bachao" rallies at the state level from April 25 to 30 and then at the district level from May 3 to 10 and finally, launching a door-to-door campaign to take the party's message to every household in the country from May 20 to 30.
