Priyanka Gandhi returns to India, meets Rahul Gandhi at his residence
In the meeting at Rahul’s residence, Priyanka also met with other Congress leaders with whom she discussed the strategy for Uttar Pradesh-East, of which she has been made the general secretary.
New Delhi: The newly inducted General Secretary of the Congress party for Uttar Pradesh East, Priyanka Gandhi, Vadra returned to India from abroad on Monday. Priyanka, who was in abroad due to family reasons, is yet to take charge formally.
After returning, Priyanka went to meet her brother and Congress president Rahul Gandhi at his Tughlaq Road residence.
In the meeting at Rahul’s residence, Priyanka also met with other Congress leaders with whom she discussed the strategy for Uttar Pradesh-East, of which she has been made the general secretary. Congress general secretary for UP-West Jyotiraditya Scindia was also present during the meeting with Congress leaders. President of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee Raj Babbar and party’s general secretary for Karnataka K C Venugopal were also present in the meeting.
At the time when Priyanka’s entry into active politics was announced, Congress leaders had said that she will be taking charge in the first week of February.
Priyanka Gandhi would be present at a meeting of All India Congress Committee general secretaries and in-charges of various states, who have been called in Delhi on Thursday evening, to plan the strategy for the Lok Sabha election due by May, news agency PTI reported citing parry sources.
Rahul Gandhi has also called a meeting of state chiefs and Congress Legislature Party leaders on Saturday in the national capital, to review preparedness for the general election.
The Indian National Congress appointed Priyanka Gandhi as the general secretary of Eastern Uttar Pradesh region on January 23, in wake of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The INC also named her as the in-charge of party’s affairs in Eastern Uttar Pradesh as a move to step up their preparations for the Lok Sabha polls.
