Guest At 'Mann Ki Baat At 100' Conclave Goes Into Labour During Event, Delivers Baby Boy

During PM Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat' at 100 Conclave, a woman went into labour and later delivered a healthy baby boy.

In a heartwarming instance, one of the guests at the Mann ki Baat @100 Conclave in New Delhi gave birth to a baby boy after going into labour during the event. Poonam Devi, a member of a self-help group in Uttar Pradesh, was among the special invitees for the Conclave at Vigyan Bhawan on Wednesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had talked about her work at a self-help group near Lakhimpur Kheri in one of the episodes of the 'Mann Ki Baat' radio programme.

Poonam was among the 100 invitees whose names had been mentioned by the Prime Minister in his previous 'Mann Ki Baat' episodes for their exceptional contribution to society. During the Conclave, Poonam went into labour at Vigyan Bhawan and was rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where she gave birth to a healthy baby boy, an official told PTI.

The Self Help Group, Poonam works with, in Lakhimpur Kheri produces handbags, mats, and other items using fibre from banana stems, an initiative that provides an additional source of income for women in the village and also contributes to reducing waste.

The day-long Conclave was organised to celebrate the 100th episode of Mann Ki Baat which is scheduled to be aired on Sunday. The Conclave was inaugurated by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar.

Among the other dignitaries who graced the event were Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah, Railways Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw, and Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur.

The event involved discussions on various topics such as 'Naari Shakti' (women power), people's movements, and India's culture and tradition. 

The National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (NIRDPR) of Hyderabad has conducted a study on the impact of PM's Mann ki Baat initiative in two Rural Development Programs- SHG and Amrit Sarovar. According to the findings of this study  the Self Help Groups (SHGs) the way to not just focus on savings, but also move towards being micro-enterprises, which PM Modi will share in the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme.

The findings of the study were bought out as a report titled 'In search of Excellence in Rural Transformation: The Maan Ki Baat Stories' was released on Friday. There are more than 80 lakh self-help groups in the country and around 8 crore women are associated with it.
