Prashant Kishor Likely To Be Sent To 14-Day Judicial Custody As Jan Suraaj Leader Refuses Bail Bond

Despite being granted bail, Kishor had remained reluctant to fill the bail bond. The court imposed a condition that he must not participate in future protests that disrupt law and order.

The overnight drama in Patna surrounding the detention of political strategist Prashant Kishor has taken a new turn. The 'Jan Suraaj' founder will likely be sent to 14-day judicial custody after he has refused to pay the bail bond. As per legal protocol, judicial custody is granted in such cases. Senior Advocate of the Patna High Court, Y V Giri, said that the decision would be finalised soon.

Earlier in the day, Kishor was granted bail by the Patna Civil Court on a personal bond of Rs 25,000. He was arrested on Monday morning (January 6 2025) after being taken into custody during the early hours and produced in court following a medical examination at Patna AIIMS.

Despite being granted bail, Kishor has remained reluctant to fill the bail bond.

The court imposed a condition that he must not participate in future protests that disrupt law and order. However, Prashant Kishor refused to accept the conditional bail. His team issued a statement saying that his hunger strike will continue, and if raising a voice against youth-related injustices is a crime, then he is willing to go to jail.

Arrest Amid Hunger Strike And Protest

Prashant Kishor was on a hunger strike at Gandhi Maidan in Patna to support the demands of BPSC candidates when he was detained and subsequently arrested. His detention led to significant unrest among his supporters, who created a commotion when he was taken to Patna AIIMS for a medical check-up.

The Patna District Administration stated that Kishor and several others were illegally protesting near the Gandhi statue in a restricted area of Gandhi Maidan regarding their five-point demands. Despite being issued notices and requests to move the protest to the designated site at Gardanibagh, they refused to vacate the restricted area.

Consequently, an FIR was registered at Gandhi Maidan police station, and Kishor, along with some supporters, was arrested on 6 January 2025.
