PM Modi Addresses 'Mann Ki Baat', Calls For Effort In Keeping Rivers Pollution Free

'Mann Ki Baat': In his opening speech, PM Modi highlighted the importance of rivers on the occasion of World River Day. PM Modi urged people to value every drop of water and work against pollution.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the 81st episode of his monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat' during which he highlighted the importance of rivers on the occasion of World River Day. In his opening speech, PM Modi urged people to value every drop of water and work against pollution.

"September 26 is an important day because it is related to Indian tradition and heritage. Today is World Rivers Day. A day to remember the contribution of our rivers that selflessly provide us with water. As we celebrate World River Day today, I urge the people across the country to mark a 'river festival' at least once a year," PM Modi said. 

The Prime Minister further mentioned about the Namami Gange Mission saying, that the project is progressing smoothly through people's participation. He continued saying that a special 'E-auction' of gifts is underway these days and the proceeds from that will be dedicated to the 'Namami Gange' campaign. 

Further in his address, PM Modi lauded rural women for their initiative in bringing up the Naga river in Tamil Nadu back to life after it had dried up. 

"Naga river in Tamil Nadu had dried up, but due to the initiatives by the rural women, and active public participation the river was brought to life, and to this day there is plenty of water in the river," the Prime Minister noted. 

Swachh Bharat Mission

Along with highlighting the significance of rivers in India, PM Modi also reiterated the importance of cleanliness in the country and urged public to contribute their effirts towards Swachh Bharat Mission. 

'Bapu' (Mahatma Gandhi) was a proponent of cleanliness, he made cleanliness a mass movement and associated it with the dream of independence," PM Modi said.  On the occasion of approaching Gandhi Jayanti, PM Modi urged the people of India to buy Khadi products and mark Bapu's Jayanti with great fervour on October 2. 

Covid Rules During Festivals

Towards the end of his address, Prime Minister in view of approaching festivals, once again requested citizens to follow Covid protocals. "Festivals are approaching, we've to continue our fight with COVID.'Team India' is making new records every day, including vaccination which has made records internationally. No one should be devoid of this 'Suraksha Chakra', protocols should be followed," the Prime Minister noted. 

The radio programme comes after his recently-concluded visit to the United States where he addressed the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
