PM Modi Security Lapse: SC To Hear Plea Against CM Channi-Led Punjab Govt On Friday

The top court agreed to take up the plea and listed it as the first item tomorrow to ensure there is no breach in the security of the Prime Minister in future.

New Delhi: Supreme Court agreed to hear a plea on Friday seeking a probe against CM Charanjit Singh Channi-led Punjab government over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's security breach as he was stuck on a flyover for 20 minutes due to a blockade by protesters.

A bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana took note of senior advocate Maninder Singh's plea seeking a serious breach in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's security in Ferozepur, Punjab.

PM Modi had to return midway from poll-bound Punjab without attending any event, including a rally.

The Supreme Court agreed to take up the plea to ensure there is no breach in the security of the Prime Minister in the future, according to the news agency PTI.

CJI N V Ramana asked Singh to serve a copy of his petition to the Punjab government. Singh told the bench that it has to be ensured that what happened is not repeated and urged it to take up the plea.

"The security lapse, as per reliable reports in the print and the electronic media, and as per the Press Information Bureau report of Central Government, was clearly intentional and raises a serious question as to national security and the role played by the present political dispensation in the State of Punjab," the petition noted.
