PM Modi Security Breach: Supreme Court Panel Probing Lapse Reaches Punjab's Ferozepur

Former apex court judge Justice (Retd.) Indu Malhotra, who is heading the panel probing the security breach, has arrived at the Piareana village in Ferozepur, according to ABP News sources.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court appointed panel, which is investigating the security breach during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab last month, reached Ferozepur on Sunday.

Former apex court judge Justice (Retd.) Indu Malhotra, who is heading the panel probing the security breach, has arrived at the Piareana village in Ferozepur, according to ABP News sources.

Justice (Retd.) Malhotra earlier reached Amritsar from Delhi and then proceeded by road to reach the Piareana village, sources added.

Top officials of the Punjab Police have also reached the spot with the investigation team.

The team is conducting the probe on the flyover near Piareana village on the Ferozepur-Moga road where Prime Minister Modi’s convoy was stuck for about 20 minutes due to a blockade by the farmers earlier on January 5.

The cavalcade was stuck and private cars were seen approaching, which was a major security breach.

The five-member panel probing the incident also includes the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Inspector General, Director General of Police (DGP) of Chandigarh, the Registrar General of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Additional DGP (Security) of Punjab.

The committee will look into who is responsible for the security breach and suggest what safeguards are necessary for the security of the Prime Minister and Constitutional functionaries.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) team set up by the Centre to investigate into the breach of the Prime Minister’s security and fix up the responsibility for the lapses had visited Ferozepur last month.

Earlier last month, the Punjab government submitted a report to the MHA detailing the sequence of events leading up to the security breach during Prime Minister Modi’s visit.

The report was made after consulting with top state police officials, who were in charge of the Prime Minister’s security.
