The second Voice of Global South Summit will build on the success of the first edition held in January 2023 and the outcomes of the various G20 meetings held under India’s Presidency.
The second ‘Voice of Global South Summit’ will be held on November 17 in virtual mode, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs Arindam Bagchi said on Thursday. PM Narendra Modi will be addressing the summit and there will be eight parallel ministerial sessions. PM Modi will preside over both the opening and closing sessions.
The summit will build on the success of the first edition held in January 2023 and the outcomes of the various G20 meetings held under India’s Presidency. The inaugural summit saw the participation of representatives from 125 nations in the Global South.
Structured into 10 sessions, this summit will bring leaders together to discuss critical issues, a release from the External Affairs Ministry stated. The overarching theme for the Inaugural Leaders’ Session is “Together, for Everyone’s Growth, with Everyone’s Trust,” underscoring the importance of collaborative progress. The Concluding Leaders’ Session, themed “Global South: Together for One Future,” encapsulates the collective aspirations for a unified and progressive world order. "The challenges posed by global developments are also likely to be discussed. Further, the Summit will serve as a platform to discuss ways to sustain the momentum generated towards our common aspiration of a more inclusive, representative and progressive world order," the MEA release stated.
The eight ministerial sessions will include two Foreign Ministers’ Sessions; and one Ministerial session each of Education, Finance, Environment, Energy, Health and Commerce Ministers. A concluding session of the leaders will be held in the evening.
Countries from across the world would be participating at the summit — from the Pacific Islands in the East to Latin America in the West. The key focus would be to share the beneficial outcomes and progress achieved in the concerns/priorities of the Global South during Bharat’s G-20 Presidency.
Leaders at the summit will also deliberate on the way forward for the Global South to achieve common objectives.
The inaugural leaders’ session will begin at 10 AM and end at 11 AM.
