PM Modi congratulates Kumaraswamy and Parameshwara on being sworn in as CM, Dy CM

Earlier in the day ahead of the swearing in ceremony of Kumaraswamy, the BJP leaders staged street protest and observed a ‘black-day’.

New Delhi: After weeks of strikes and counter-strikes between BJP and Congress-JDS alliance,  the dust has finally settled down in Karnataka and HD Kumaraswamy has been sworn in as the new CM of the state. After HD Kumaraswamy took oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him on Twitter and also over phone call, as per ANI. He also congratulated Congress’ G Parameshwara for taking oath as the deputy CM of the state. He tweeted: “I congratulate Shri H D Kumaraswamy Ji and Dr Parameshwara Ji on taking oath as Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka. My best wishes for their tenure ahead.” However earlier in the day ahead of the swearing in ceremony of Kumaraswamy, the BJP leaders staged street demonstration and observed a ‘black-day’. The BJP warned that it would hold a statewide 'bandh' if the new coalition government fails to fulfill its election promises. Addressing the party workers who had gathered in large numbers to stage a demonstration near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Anand Rao Circle, BJP state chief B S Yeddyurappa condemned the coalition government as "an opportunistic alliance." "There is a farm loan of Rs 53,000 crore. You have said you will waive all the loans. Let us see whether you will actually waive all the farm loans. If you fail, we will observe a bandh all over the state," he had said. After his swearing in, Kumaraswamy said that he will waive off the farmers’ loan in the state. The opposition's bonhomie was on display at the ceremony as Congress president Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, CPIM general secretary Sitaram Yechuri, NCP leader Sharad Pawar were seen together on a stage, during the event which is being projected as a show of strength by non-BJP parties.
