Brazil That Has Same Population As Uttar Pradesh Recorded More Covid-19 Deaths: PM Modi

Uttar Pradesh not only checked the pace of COVID-19 spread but those infected are also recovering fast, said PM Modi.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday asserted that Uttar Pradesh overcame all the apprehensions and managed the Coronavirus crisis well at its end. He said that Brazil with same population as UP has recorded more deaths. Uttar Pradesh not only checked the pace of COVID-19 spread but those infected are also recovering fast, he said. While in Uttar Pradesh, around 800 people have lost their lives, it means many lives have been saved in the state, said the Prime Minister in his interaction with the representatives from Non-Governmental Organisations based in his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi. According to the Health Ministry's daily bulletin, Uttar Pradesh has 31,156 cases and 845 people have succumbed to the deadly disease till now. He said that the when a similar pandemic happened 100 years ago, India witnessed a huge number of deaths which is why all eyes were on India this time. Even then, at that time, India was one of the countries which had the most deaths. That is why whole world was concerned for India this time,” said the Prime Minister. He said that against everybody’s expectations, India managed the pandemic well despite being the second most populous country in the world. Experts were raising questions on India, saying this time also the situation will get worse but what happened? Uttar Pradesh, a state with population 23-24 crores, with support of its people overcame all these apprehensions, he said. India rallies behind the US and Brazil and is the third worst-affected country in the world. While India has witnessed over 7.5 lakh cases and 21,000 deaths, Brazil recorded 17 lakh infections and 67,000 deaths. Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan also stated that India’s number of cases per million are 538, quite low compared to other countries. “We are seeing on TV that India has become the 3rd most Covid-19 affected country. It is necessary to see this in correct perspective, we are a country with the 2nd highest population in the world. Our cases per million are 538, while world average is 1,453,”health minister said.
