Pimpri-Chinchwad BJP MLA Laxman Jagtap Passes Away At 59 After Battling Cancer

Laxman Jagtap's political journey started from 1986. He was a corporator till 2002. During this time, he held the position of Chairman of the Standing Committee.

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Chinchwad, Laxman Jagtap passed away on Tuesday after a prolonged illness. The three-time MLA from Chinchwad breathed his last at the age of 59 after battling cancer. He was undergoing treatment at Pune's Jupiter Hospital. The mortal remain will be kept at his residence between 3 pm to 6 pm today at his residence after which he will be cremated at 7 pm. 

Jagtap received treatment from abroad as well following which his condition improved but suffered again since past five-six months. He underwent treatment but his condition kept deteriorating, reported ABP Majha. 

Laxman Jagtap's Political Journey

His political journey started from 1986. He was a corporator till 2002. During this time, he held the position of Chairman of the Standing Committee.

In 2004, he left the NCP and won the Legislative Council election as an Independent. It showed its political strength. 

In the year 2004, he was an MLA of the Legislative Council. 

In 2009, he was elected as an MLA in the Legislative Assembly. Since 2014, he has been a BJP MLA for two consecutive terms. After that in 2017, he held the post of Pimpri city president. At the same time, he played an important role in bringing BJP to power in Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
