Pawan Khera Tenders Unconditional Apology: Tweets Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam CM Himanta Biswar Sarma has tweeted that Congress leader Pawan Khera has tendered an 'unconditional apology' over his alleged remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's father.

New Delhi: Assam CM Himanta Biswar Sarma on Friday tweeted that the Congress leader Pawan Khera has tendered an 'unconditional apology' over his alleged remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's father, a day after he was arrested by the Assam Police in a high-voltage drama.

The CM also shared images of the Writ Petition filed in the Supreme Court by Khera and said, "The majesty of law shall always prevail. The accused has tendered an unconditional apology (Para 7). We hope that keeping the sanctity of public spaces, no one will use uncivilized language in political discourse hereafter. @assampolice will follow the matter to its logical end."

The development comes a day after party spokesperson Pawan Khera was arrested by Assam police in a high drama over his alleged remarks on PM Narendra Modi's father.

In a hard-hitting statement on the arrest of Khera, Congress called the move "arbitrary and dictatorial" and a "cowardly attempt" to derail the AICC plenary in Raipur. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal further said that Khera was arrested because Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scared of being questioned on his relationship with Gautam Adani.

"Khera was arrested on totally baseless charges, which were only trumped up because Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scared of being questioned on his relationship with Gautam Adani," Venugopal said.

"This charade is not going to deter us from raising questions about the manner in which the Modi government has systematically favoured the Adani group and is conspicuously silent on allegations of stock rigging, over valuation and benami money being pushed through a web of shell companies against the Adani Group of companies," the Congress leader further said.

Khera, who was on his way to Raipur for the Congress plenary session, was arrested amid high drama by Assam Police after he was deboarded from an IndiGo flight at Delhi airport.
