Pahalgam Terror Attack: India Summons Pakistan's Top Diplomat After Bold Diplomatic Offensive

The decision follows the dastardly terror attack on tourists in Kashmir's Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives.

A day after launching a bold diplomatic offensive like suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, India has summoned Pakistan's top diplomat in Delhi, Saad Ahmad Warraich, and handed over the formal Persona Non Grata note for its military diplomats.

The decision follows the dastardly terror attack on tourists in Kashmir's Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. After returning from Saudi Arabia, PM Narendra Modi chaired a two-hour meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS). The meeting was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar among others.

After the meeting, the Ministry of External Affairs announced, "The Defence/Military, Naval and Air Advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi are declared Persona Non Grata. They have a week to leave India."

India will withdraw its own Defence/Navy/Air Advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. These posts in the respective High Commissions are deemed annulled. Five support staff of the Service Advisors will also be withdrawn from both High Commissions.

The Integrated Check Post at Attari has been closed with immediate effect. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, "Those who have crossed over with valid endorsements may return through that route before May 1, 2025."

The indefinite suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty is a bold step as it has long been considered a symbol of cooperation even amid years-long conflict between the two nations.
