Congress Slams BJP For Including Only 1 Of 4 MPs For Outreach Delegation

Congress accused the government of "cheap political games" for including other Congress leaders not nominated by the party and reiterated calls for a special Parliament session.

A new political row has erupted ever since the Centre announced the members of the delegation for the government's diplomatic outreach programme.

The Congress has once again slammed the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government for including only one of the four MPs it suggested for the delegation.

Earlier on Saturday, Ramesh said the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, asked for four names from the party to be included in the delegation but chose Shashi Tharoor instead, who was not on the list.

Anand Sharma, Gaurav Gogoi, Syed Naseer Hussain, and Amrinder Singh Raja Warring were the MPs who were nominated by Congress for the delegation. Of the four, only Anand Sharma has been included in the seven delegations visiting various nations.

The other four Congress leaders that have been picked by the Centre are Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tewari, Amar Singh, and Salman Khurshid, all of them who were not nominated by the party.

'Cheap Political Games'

Ramesh accused the government of being involved in cheap political games and reiterated its demand for a special session of the Parliament to discuss the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack.

He also said that the other three MPs who were not nominated by the party but were included in the delegation will make their contributions.

"The INC will not stoop to the pathetic level of the PM and the BJP. It wishes the delegations all the very best," said the Congress leader.

"These delegations should not, however, divert attention from the INC's demands to have all-party meetings chaired by the PM and for a special session of Parliament to reiterate the resolution adopted on Feb 22 1994 while also taking note of developments thereafter," he added.
