Under 'Operation Brahma', the MEA informed that rescue and relief operations are underway in Myanmar. The NDRF team are working on rescuing 170 monks stuck at the U hla thein monastery.

Rescue and relief efforts are ongoing in Myanmar, which was struck by an earthquake of 7.7 magnitude on Friday. According to a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India's National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team is conducting a rescue operation at the U hla thein monastery, where 170 monks are still stuck under the emergency mission 'Operation Brahma', on Monday.

The NDRF team are deployed at the Sky Villa, where 4 towers of 11 storeys each have collapsed and several foreigners are stuck.

Meanwhile, the Indian army will visit the hospital site and set up their Medical Services on Tuesday. According to MEA, relief materials are arriving on Tuesday, and they will also be given to the Secretary General of the state Mahanayak Committee (2nd highest of the Committee in Myanmar) where around 2,000 monks are sitting outside the monastery, who are not injured but have nowhere to go and have no basic amenities.

Teams will also be deployed to the Mandalay Palace, Maha Muni Pagoda, MIIT, and other such places where substantial damage has occurred. The teams are assisting members of the Indian community with their stay and food, as per MEA.

The earthquake was followed by a series of aftershocks, including a 6.7-magnitude tremor.
