North India Gets Respite From Heat As Rain Lashes Several Parts, Showers To Continue Till May 31, Says IMD

The weatherman also predicted hailstorm over north Rajasthan, Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab between May 29 and 31. 

Parts of north India witnessed rainfall on Monday that brought relief from the scorching heat. Delhiites also woke upto a pleasant morning as rain poured down in some parts of the national capital. As per the India Meteorological Department rainfall and thunderstorm activity is likely to continue over north west India till May 31 and decrease gradually thereafter. 

Maharashtra is also expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light to moderate spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph  at isolated places in Kolhapur, Satara, Pune, Beed, Sangli, Latur, Osmanabad, Ahmednagar, Jalna during next 3-4 hours, reported news agency ANI. 

“Light/moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and occasional gusty winds/squall (40-50 gusting to 60kmph) very likely over Northwest India till 31st May with peak activity on 29th & 30th May and gradual reduction from 01st June, the MeT department said in a statement on Monday. 

The weatherman also predicted hailstorm over north Rajasthan, Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab between May 29 and 31. 

On Saturday, the agency had issued an orange alert  for Haryana, North-East Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and said that there is a possibility of thunderstorms in the national capital for the next 3-4 days. 

Earlier today, The IMD took to Twitter to inform regarding the dust storm with rain, its bulletin read, "Dust storm/Thunderstorm with rain and gusty winds speed of 40-60 Km/h would occur over and adjoining areas of few places of Delhi, NCR ( Bahadurgarh, Gurugram) Hansi, Meham, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Farukhnagar, Nuh (Haryana) during next 2 hours."

The weather agency also predicted light to moderate spells of rain over Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Andaman & Nicobar islands during the next 3-4 hours. In a tweet it said, "Latest satellite imagery shows possibility of light to moderate spells of rain accompanied with thunderstorms/lightning/gusty winds activity over some parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next 3-4 hours."
