Nikita Tomar Murder Case: Haryana Court Awards Life Imprisonment To Two Convicts

The two - Tausif and his aide Rehan - were convicted under Sections 302 (murder), 366 (kidnapping a woman and forcing her to marry) and 120-B / 34 (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.

New Delhi: A court in Haryana’s Faridabad on Friday sentenced the two convicts in the high-profile Nikita Tomar murder case to life imprisonment. The court, which convicted earlier on Wednesday the two accused - Tausif and his aide Rehan – and also imposed a fine of Rs. 20,000 each on the duo.

The two were convicted under Sections 302 (murder), 366 (kidnapping a woman and forcing her to marry) and 120-B / 34 (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. Tausif was also held guilty under the Arms Act.

Moolchand Tomar, the victim’s father, heaved a sigh of relief following the court’s verdict on Wednesday. “We have full faith in our judicial system and we are hopeful that Nikita will get justice,” PTI quoted Tomar as saying.

Demanding the culprits to be hanged, he said that there should be a strong deterrence so that no one else will dare to commit such a crime in future. The 21-year-old girl was shot in broad daylight on October 26 last year. The incident, which took place during a failed abduction attempt, was caught on camera.

According to police, the girl had stepped out of her college after an exam when Tausif confronted her, trying to force her into a car.

The two accused were later arrested on the basis of CCTV footage following which the police filed a 700-page charge sheet before the court in connection with this case on November 6 last year. The trial, which began on December 1 last year, concluded on Wednesday.
