Maharashtra Covid Surge: Test, Trace, Treat & Isolate, Recommends Task Force As Daily Cases Top 35,000 Mark

The Maharashtra Task Force has said there is a second wave and a new mutant strain, which is more infectious and there is a problem of immune escape, adding this too could be a reason for a rise in the number of cases.

The Maharashtra Task Force, set up by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray-led government in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, has made several recommendations to curb the virus with special emphasis on ‘three T’s’ and ‘one I’ — test, trace, treat and isolate besides advising that work from home must continue in the present scenario.

The Maharashtra Task Force, which put forth these recommendations ahead of the Chief Minister’s scheduled meeting with the District Collectors on the present situation in the state, has said there is a second wave and a new mutant strain, which is more infectious and there is a problem of immune escape, adding this too could be a reason for a rise in the number of cases.

Sending the recommendations on two aspects controlling the pandemic and ramping up vaccination, the task force has suggested that Covid-appropriate behaviour should be enforced by the law.

Stating since it is difficult to keep the youngsters at home, it has been recommended they should go under institutional quarantine or strict enforcement of home quarantine.

The task force has recommended tracing of 30 contacts per Covid case in 24 hours besides advising not to move out in case there is no work and stop activities like people chit-chatting at road corners, morning and evening walks.

Stating that currently office spaces are capped at 50 per cent, the task force has recommended if those among the remaining 50 per cent can also work from home then they should do so.

It has also been advised that one must not ignore Covid-19 systems but get tested.

Asserting the vaccination drive needs to be scaled up, the task force has said the people within 18 and 45 years of age are the spreader group and hence it was recommended vaccination for all but there are constraints at the government level.

With Maharashtra recording 35,952 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the task force has said that there could be a further rise in the number of cases in the next few days because of increased testing.

Maharashtra reported 111 casualties in the last 24 hours despite the state government imposing several restrictions to bring the situation under control.
