New Direction To Housing Projects: PM Modi Lays Foundation Stone Of Light House Projects In 6 Cities
The LHPs will be constructed at Indore, Rajkot, Chennai, Ranchi, Agartala and Lucknow, comprising about 1,000 houses at each location along with allied infrastructure facilities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday laid foundation stone of Light House Projects (LHPs) under Global Housing Technology Challenge-India, in which, Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Tripura, Andhra Pradesh took part.

Speaking at the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the six projects will give a new direction to the housing projects of the country, it has strengthened cooperative federalism. He said, Affordable Sustainable Housing Accelerators -India (ASHA-India) program is being run in the country to promote research and startups in modern housing technology.
"At one time, Housing Plans were not the priority of Central govt. The govt did not care about the details and quality of construction. If the changes were not made, it would have been very difficult. Today, the country has chosen a different approach," said PM Modi.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that is a backward state and under Light House Project, 1,008 houses will be constructed here with the help of Central and State government. “People living here have low incomes as most of them are labourers. We should strategise how we can minimise their financial burden,” he added.
Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said: “PM envisioned Housing for all by 2022 by which year, the nation will complete 75 years of independence. The program is of particular relevance to the state of Andhra Pradesh which is vulnerable to natural disasters like cyclones, floods etc.”
