The victim's father revealed that his family first learned about the incident on February 16 from his son, the deceased student’s brother, who also studies at the university.

After the death of a Nepali student at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, her father, Sunil Lamsal, alleged that she was subjected to harassment and emotional blackmail, which ultimately drove her to take her own life.
"We just know that an investigation is being conducted. The post-mortem report will come soon. We have information that she was harassed and emotionally blackmailed, which led to her suicide," Lamsal said, ANI reported.

He also mentioned that although he had spoken with university officials, they did not share any further details. "Yesterday, we had a conversation with the university officials. They did not say anything, but the police and college administration are cooperating," he added.
Lamsal revealed that his family first learned about the incident on February 16 from his son, the deceased student’s brother, who also studies at the university. He further claimed that the person arrested in connection with the case was responsible for his daughter’s death.
Sunil Lamsal mentioned that his son, who is also a student at the same university, informed the family about the incident two days ago. He stated that one person had been arrested and held responsible for his daughter's death. Additionally, her phone, laptop, and diary had been handed over to the forensic department for investigation. Lamsal acknowledged the support provided by the police and government in the matter.
We Demand Justice And Nothing Else: Victim's Father
Expressing his concerns, Lamsal criticised reports suggesting that some students were being forced to leave the campus. "I heard that the students are being asked to leave, and this is not right. We demand justice and nothing else," he stated.
The incident sparked protests in Kathmandu, led by the student wing of the Nepali Congress party, demanding justice for the deceased student. On February 17, KIIT issued a notice instructing Nepali students to vacate the campus immediately after the student’s body was discovered in the hostel.
"The college was closed sine die for all international students from Nepal." However, later the same day, the university urged students to return and resume their academic activities," the notice read.
"There was an unfortunate incident which took place late in the evening yesterday on the KIIT campus. Immediately after the incident, the police investigated the matter and apprehended the culprit. The KIIT administration has taken all-out efforts to restore normalcy on the campus and in the hostels to resume academic activities," the statement said.
