Need To Be Careful In India Too: Gehlot Cautions Over Covid Surge In China, South Korea

After witnessing a sharp surge in Covid-19 cases earlier this week, South Korea and China on Sunday reported a slight dip in daily cases.

New Delhi: As Covid-19 cases surge in many countries including China and South Korea, Rajasthan Chief Minister expressed concern on Sunday saying that there is a need to be vigilant to prevent further infections in India. 

Taking to Twitter, the Rajasthan Chief Minister wrote, "As is seen in the news, coronavirus cases are increasing in many countries, including China and South Korea. The number of those infected is rising by around 12 per cent every day. In such a situation, there is a need to be careful in India too."

He also suggested controlling and monitoring flights from such countries.  

"Flights coming from countries witnessing an increase in Covid cases should be controlled and passengers screened at the airport. Wearing of masks will have to be continued in India," he said in another tweet.

Being vigilant is very important to prevent more infections in the future, Gehlot said, adding that Rajasthan is on alert and the state government is continuously monitoring the situation.

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope, on Saturday, had said that the state government is on alert over the situation, news agency ANI had reported. 

We have received a letter from the central government to be on alert as there is a surge in COVID cases across European Countries, South Korea and China. Accordingly, our health department had issued a letter to DCs to be cautious and take necessary steps," Tope had said.

After witnessing a sharp surge in Covid-19 cases earlier this week, South Korea and China on Sunday reported a slight dip in daily cases. On Sunday, South Korea logged a case count below 4,00,000 for a second consecutive day with 3,34,708 new cases as against Saturday when 3,81,454 cases were registered in the country, reported Korea Herald. South Korea had recorded an all time high daily case count of 6,21,281.

Meanwhile China reported 1,737 new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday which was less than 2,228 cases recorded on Saturday.
