Navy’s MiG 29K Fighter Jet Crashes Over Sea In Goa, Pilot Ejected Safely

The pilot safely ejected and was retrieved after a quick search and rescue effort.

After developing a technical malfunction, a MiG 29K fighter jet of the Indian Navy crashed over sea on a routine sortie off Goa coast, officials said, news agency ANI reported.

The pilot safely ejected and was retrieved after a quick search and rescue effort. According to the most recent report, the pilot is in stable condition.

The incident was reported on Twitter by the Navy. "A MiG 29K on a routine sortie over the sea off Goa developed a technical malfunction while returning to base. The pilot ejected safely & has been recovered in a swift SAR op. The pilot reported to be in stable condition," Indian Navy tweeted.

A Board of Inquiry (BoI) has been ordained to examine the incident's cause.

Earlier last week, one of the Army helicopter's pilots was killed when it crashed while on a routine mission in Tawang, one of India's final outposts along the China border.

“An army aviation Cheetah helicopter flying in the forward area near Tawang has crashed on 05 October (today) at around 10am during a routine sortie. Both the pilots were evacuated to nearest military hospital…,” a statement released by an Army public relations office reads.

Later, sources identified the deceased pilot as Lieutenant Colonel Saurabh Yadav.

In recent years, there have been a number of helicopter crashes in Arunachal Pradesh, with severe weather being the primary cause of most of them. Six helicopter crashes in the Northeast state have resulted in the deaths of nearly 40 individuals since 2010. Former chief minister Dorjee Khandu is one of them.

In March, a second Army Cheetah helicopter crashed close to the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. The incident resulted in the death of the pilot and serious injuries to the co-pilot.
