Navjot Singh Sidhu meets Congress VP Rahul Gandhi, no clarity yet on joining party

New Delhi: On Thursday, Navjot Singh Sidhu has met Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi amid speculations of his joining the party ahead of Punjab assembly election. Sidhu's wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu has already joined the Congress. Navjot Singh Sidhu who had formed his own political party ‘Aawaaz-e-Punjab’ may contest election from Amritsar East constituency. According to rumours, Sidhu is pitching for the post of deputy Chief Minister in the Punjab. However, recently, in an exclusive interview to ABP News channel, Congress’ CM candidate Captain Amarinder Singh has clarified that no such promise is made that Navjot Singh Sidhu will be made deputy CM of the state, in case the party comes to power. Sidhu a three-time MP from Amritsar was adjusted in the Rajya Sabha by the BJP after Arun Jaitley was given a ticket in 2014 Lok Sabha elections. But unhappy with not getting a larger role in Punjab, Sidhu quit the party and resigned from Rajya Sabha. Punjab Legislative Assembly election, 2017 The Punjab legislative assembly election will be held on 4th February 2017 to select the 117 members of the Punjab Legislative Assembly. On 11th March, the results of the election will be announced. The current ruling coalition is Shiromani Akali Dal - Bharatiya Janata Party alliance led by Parkash Singh Badal.
