'Pakistan Ki Taakat Ko Mai Khud Check Karke Aaya': PM Modi Takes Dig At Mani Shankar's 'Nuclear Nation' Remark

Reacting to senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar's remark, PM Modi said he had personally visited Pakistan to check how powerful it is.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a recent interview took a dig at Pakistan over the country's nuclear defence, saying he has personally visited the neighbouring country and checked how powerful it is.

Reacting to senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar's remark, PM Modi, in a recent interview to India TV, said, "Uss taakat ko mei khud Lahore jaakar check karke aaya hu (I had personally visited Pakistan to check how powerful it is)."

The prime minister was responding to Congress veteran Mani Shankar Aiyar who sparked a controversy after saying that India should engage in dialogue with Pakistan and not flex its military muscles as it may irk Islamabad into deploying nuclear weapons.

PM Modi recalled his visit to the Pakistani city of Lahore in 2015 said that when he visited Pakistan, many reporters questioned "Haye Allah toba, ye bina visa ke aa gaye (Oh my God, he has arrived to the country without a Visa)."

"I told them it was my country at some point of time," PM Modi added. The clip of Prime Minister Modi has gone viral on the internet.

Addressing a rally in Patiala, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday noted that more than 90,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered in the 1971 Indo-Pak War and asserted if he had been in power he would have taken Kartapur Sahib from Pakistan before freeing their troops.

"The partition left Kartar Sahib in Pakistan's Punjab, just a few kilometres away from the border with India. For 70 years, we could have a 'darshan' of the Kartarpur Sahib gurdwara only with binoculars," PM Modi said.
