'Nabanna Abhijan': BJP Workers And Cops Face Off In Howrah Ahead Of Protest Rally Against Mamata Govt

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is organising the massive 'Nabanna Cholo' march on Tuesday to protest the ruling TMC government's alleged corrupt practises.

Amidst the ongoing clash between the West Bengal BJP and the ruling Trinamool Congress administration, the saffron party alleged on Tuesday that the Bengal Police were preventing party activists and leaders from marching to the secretariat, ANI reported.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is organising the massive 'Nabanna Cholo' march on Tuesday to protest the ruling TMC government's alleged corrupt practises.

Beginning on Tuesday morning, BJP supporters from all across West Bengal arrived in Kolkata and the neighboring Howrah to participate in the party's "Nabanna Abhijan" (march to the secretariat) in opposition to what they claim are its corrupt policies, ANI reported.

Hundreds of BJP workers travelling by train to Kolkata to participate the BJP's Nabanna march are meeting police roadblocks on their route to railway terminals.

The cops have also set up water canons in important regions such as Howrah to deal with any unpleasant law and order scenario as the BJP continues to march despite authorities' refusal to provide permission.

On Tuesday morning, despite increased security to prevent saffron party cadres from accessing the Bengal secretariat, reports of BJP members and police fighting outside the Raniganj railway station as workers headed for Kolkata for the Nabanna Cholo rally also surfaced, ANI reported.

According to reports, police have detained employees as a precaution. Abhijit Dutta, a BJP leader, said that 20 party members had been stopped by police close to the Durgapur train station.

The demonstration is unlawful, according to the police, therefore they can't let it since it could disrupt law and order.
