Muzaffarpur (Bihar): The sensational murder of Samir Kumar, former Mayor of Muzaffarpur town, was allegedly hatched inside a city jail. Police Sources say the team of investigators is close to nabbing the assailants. Two suspected have been indentified after the police off rounded off 5 persons for investigations.  One of them is said to be a wealthy businessman from the city. The police have, however, not been able to recover the automatic rifle or the AK-47 used in the assassination of Kumar in which his driver also was killed. Kumar was the mayor of Muzaffarpur Municipal Corporation between 2002 to 2007. Sources say Kumar was eliminated was because of his growing clamour in the real estate industry that made his business partner and his rivals envious. According to police sources, the two shooters identified have been working for the infamous Shambhu-Mantu gang. Shambhu is presently lodged in Muzaffarpur jail. Sources claim that the conspiracy of this murder was hatched within the murky barracks. The killers conducted a recce to plan and execute the murder meticulously. Reports say Kumar did not carry his licensed pistol with him at the time of the attack indicating that an insider must have tipped this information to the attackers before hand. Also, the street light at the spot of the crime was found to be damaged. The incident took place around 7 pm on Sunday near the fire brigade office under the jurisdiction of Muzaffarpur Town police station. A total of 17-18 rounds were reportedly fired at the victim sending shockwaves across the state. The state government was left embarrassed this morning after Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi's appealed to criminals to give up anti-social activities during the ongoing "Pitri Paksh". His comments were slammed by the Opposition which has been accusing the government of giving criminals a free run.
