It’s Official! Mumbai Malls, Multiplexes, Eateries To Stay Open 24x7; Tweeple Hail Move

"The complexes which have parking, security, CCTVs, licenced establishments, and are away from residential localities will be permitted the option of 24x7 operations," Aaditya Thackeray said.

New Delhi: As the Maharashtra government approved a proposal kicking off the 24x7 operation of malls, eateries and multiplexes, social media went abuzz with Mumbaikars welcoming the move. The Maharashtra government cabinet Ministers Anil Deshmukh and Aaditya Thackeray announced that the implementation of the move will most likely begin from the midnight of January 26-27. Addressing a joint press conference, the two ministers said that the programme to let establishments be always open will be implemented in designated malls, mills and multiplexes around the city in consultation with the Mumbai Police and BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation. “Proposal of Mumbai 24x7 has been approved by Cabinet today. From 27th January malls, multiplexes, shops and eateries in non-residential areas like Bandra Kurla Complex and Nariman Point will remain open 24x7. However, we won't impose this on anyone,” said Aaditya Thackeray. "These complexes which have parking, security, CCTVs, licenced establishments, and are away from residential localities will be permitted the option of 24x7 operations," he said. "As it is Mumbaikars work practically round-the-clock. Then why should the city go under an 'undeclared curfew' after 10 p.m. daily? Until now, 24x7 was available only inside five-star hotels. But this scheme will be of immense benefit to the locals and also tourists," Thackeray said. Thrilled at the beginning of nightlife culture, here is how the residents are reacting to the decision:
