Mumbai Monsoon Orange Alert: Heavy Downpour Likely In Next Few Hours; Thane, Pune, Nashik To Receive Maximum Rainfall

Areas including Bandra, Bandra Kurla Complex (East), Santacruz, Colaba, Mahalaxmi, Ram Mandir, and NSC (Worli) stations of Mumbai have witnessed more than 10 cm of rainfall.

Mumbai: As the country’s financial hub Mumbai is coping up with the highest number of COVID-19 cases, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert on Thursday as a result of heavy rains in Mumbai and coastal Maharashtra. The weather department has predicted that the capital would continue to receive heavy rains for almost six more hours. The city is likely to witness a generally cloudy sky with moderate to heavy rainfall in the city and suburbs. Isolated regions are expected to receive very heavy rain as well.

Areas including Bandra, Bandra Kurla Complex (East), Santacruz, Colaba, Mahalaxmi, Ram Mandir, and NSC (Worli) stations of Mumbai have witnessed more than 10 cm of rainfall, as per the weather department. Other regions include Bandra-21cm; Bhayander-10cm; Dahisar-8 cm Mahalaxmi-13cm; Mira Road-10cm; Ram Mandir-14 cm.

In order to ensure the safety of the citizens, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has asked people to follow all necessary precautions, stay away from the shore, and not venture into waterlogged areas. Meanwhile, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Kishor Pednekar also visited the Disaster Management Control Room at the BMC Headquarters to understand the measures being taken to tackle the situation. Know the region-wise predictions by IMD Mumbai: North Konkan: Likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall expected at isolated places. South Konkan: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places. North-central Maharashtra: Isolated places in ghat areas may get heavy to very heavy rainfall South-central Maharashtra: Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely at isolated places in ghat areas. East Vidarbha: Heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated places. West Vidarbha: Heavy rainfall likely at isolated places. Regions such as Palghar, Thane and Raigad regions may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, including isolated regions of Nasik, Pune, and Satara. The intense rainfall spell is a result of a cyclonic circulation that lies over north Konkan and the neighborhood.

Meanwhile, a portion of a building collapsed in Mumbai's Marine Line area last night but nobody has been injured.
