BMC Announces Fresh Curbs Amid Surging Covid-19 Cases In Mumbai; Check New Rules Here

The announcement comes soon after Mumbai on Thursday reported as many as 736 new coronavirus cases, which increased its overall tally to 3,16,487.

With Mumbai witnessing another round of surge in Coronavirus cases, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday released fresh Covid-19 guidelines for the city. The announcement comes soon after Mumbai on Thursday reported as many as 736 new coronavirus cases, which increased its overall tally to 3,16,487. This was for the second consecutive day that the city has reported over 700 new infection cases. On Wednesday, there were 726 cases in the city.

Taking congnisance of the condition, the civic body took to Twitter and shared fresh Covid-19 protocols. "Updated guidelines issued by Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal to ensure that we don't let Covid-19 get the better of Mumbai," BMC tweeted, using hashtags 'NaToCorona' and 'MissionZero.'

As per the new guidelines, residential building with more than 5 coronavirus cases will be sealed completely while those found flouting rules of home quarantine, wedding and public gatherings will have to face prosecution. BMC also stated that travellers coming from Brazil will have to undergo a mandatory institutional quarantine of seven days. 

As many as 300 marshals will be deployed to take actions against those travelling in trains without masks, the fresh guidelines state. It also said that officials of Mumbai Police are now authorised to fine citizens roaming without masks in the city.

It is to be noted that daily cases of Coronavirus in Mumbai once again surge past 500-mark on Monday and Tuesday. The city's death toll due to the infection has now reached 11,430 with four new deaths, the BMC said in its data.

Earlier in the day, a weekend lockdown was announced in Maharashtra's Amravati district from Saturday 8 pm to Monday 7 am. During the lockdown, markets and other establishments will remain shut. However, essential services will remain unaffected.

The administration has also imposed fresh Covid-19 restrictions in Yavatmal district due to rise in Coronavirus cases.

Under the new rules imposed in the district, schools and colleges will remail closed in Yavatmal till February 28 and restaurants, function halls will operate and marriage ceremonies will held in the district with less than 50 per cent capacity of people.
