Mukul Roy Back In TMC, But Mamata Has A Message For Other Turncoats Seeking Return

Soon after re-joining TMC, Mukul Roy said, "I feel happy that I am back to where I belong. Bengal will be back to its former glory, amd I accept Mamata Banerjee as my supreme leader."

Kolkata: Putting an end to all the speculations, former BJP national vice president Mukul Roy on Friday formally rejoined Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) along with BJP national vice president Mukul Roy. The announcement was made during a press conference held at TMC headquarters in Kolkata after marathon meeting of party's top brass.

Soon after re-joining TMC, Mukul Roy said, "I feel happy that I am back to where I belong. Bengal will be back to its former glory, amd I accept Mamata Banerjee as my supreme leader."

"I will never return to BJP and I will never be with them," Roy said further adding that given the condition of BJP in Bengal, no one would stay in the saffron party for long.

Meanwhile, happy over his 'ghar wapsi', TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee welcomed his former confidant and said he will play an important role in the party. Mamata also took a sharp dig at BJP alleging that Mukul Roy was threatened in BJP, it affected his health.

When asked if more people from BJP will be joining TMC, Banerjee said that we will not consider those who criticised the party, betrayed the party before elections for BJP, for money.

Roy was appointed the BJP national vice president in the run-up to the Bengal assembly elections, after he quit TMC in 2017.

Ever since West Bengal Assembly elections earlier this year, TMC's approach towards Mukul Roy has been light with Banerjee in her election campaign terming Roy as 'Bhalo Chele' (Good Boy) which was followed by Abhishek Banerjee's visit to the hospital to see Roy's wife.

Though Roy was not present during his visit, Abhishek met his son Subhrangshu Roy and both of them had a discussion of more than half-an-hour. Subhrangshu was all praise for Abhishek after the meeting.

Mukul Roy started his political career as Youth Congress leader and became close aide to Mamata Banerjee who was also associated with Youth Congress.

Roy was also a founding member of All India Trinamool Congress in January 1998 as a breakaway faction of the Indian National Congress led by Mamata Banerjee. After that he became the party's face in New Delhi and was made general secretary in 2006.
