Monsoon Update: Heavy Rainfall In Delhi, Several Parts Of Gujarat Inundated Amid Incessant Downpour

IMD issued an orange alert in Mumbai till July 14. For the next 24 hours moderate to heavy rainfall in the city and suburbs. Possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places has also been forecast.

New Delhi: Several parts of the national capital experienced rainfall on Tuesday, reported news agency ANI. The rains continued for the second day after the national capital reeled under extreme heat conditions for over a week bringing temporary relief from muggy weather conditions.

On Monday, The maximum temperature was recorded at 36.9 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average, while the minimum settled at 27.1 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year, the weather office said.

The Safdarjung Observatory, considered the official marker for the capital, recorded 1 mm rainfall till 5.30 pm.  The Palam observatory received traces of rainfall while Pitampura received 77.5 mm of rainfall. The Delhi University received 11.4 mm rainfall whereas Najafgarh received 4 mm of rainfall a day earlier. 

While on Monday evening, the weather again turned humid, rains brought respite the next day. 

Rainfall continued in Gujarat resulting in waterlogging and flood-like situations in many parts of the state. The Meteorological Department on Tuesday said that light to moderate rainfall is expected in the entire state while extremely heavy rainfall is predicted in districts of South Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch. 

At least 14 people were killed in rain-related incidents in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh and thousands were moved to safety as heavy downpour lashed parts of west and central India on Monday, as per a PTI report.

Three persons were missing in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district after heavy rains and incessant downpour led to a rise in water levels of several rivers in Nashik district, where many temples, located on the bed of the Godavari river, were submerged.
