Monsoon Update: Delhi To Soon Be Relieved From heatwave, Monsoon Likely On July 10

Delhiites have been suffering due to intense heat waves and rising mercury. It is obvious that people are eagerly waiting for the rains to bring much needed respite.

New Delhi: The wait for Delhiites is almost over as rains as the Meteorological Department informs of the arrival of monsoon in Delhi on July 10. Apart from Delhi, the monsoon will also arrive in western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan on July 10 as well. The people hailing from these regions have been eagerly waiting for the monsoon. The IMD issued a statement saying, "Monsoon can hit some more parts of West Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan and Delhi around July 10. After which you can get relief from the heat."

The city had recorded the most delayed monsoon in 1987 as the monsoon arrived on July 26 that year

Kuldeep Srivastava, head of IMD's Regional Weather Forecasting Center (RWFC), said that earlier in the year 2006, the monsoon had reached Delhi on July 9. He added, in the year 2002, Delhi received the first monsoon rains on July 19. In the year 1987, Delhi had recorded the slowest progress of monsoon as it reached the city on July 26.

Effect of heat wave in Delhi

As a result of the delayed monsoon, the mercury in Delhi has reached 40. The Meteorological Department said that on Wednesday the maximum temperature could be 41 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature could be 29 degrees Celsius. On Tuesday, the effect of heatwaves and humidity could be experienced in many regions of North India. Winds were blowing but it was still very hot and humid.

According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon usually knocks in Delhi by June 27 and covers the entire country by July 8, but this time it is different

The department added that since the beginning of the monsoon season on June 1, Delhi has received only 43.6 mm of rain, which is 42% less than the normal i.e. 75.7 mm.
