Mercedes hit-and-run case: Juvenile's bail plea rejected, father released on bail

New Delhi: The bail plea of the accused juvenile in the Mercedes hit-and-run case was rejected on Sunday whereas his father was released on a personal bail bond of Rs. one lakh. The juvenile has been apprehended and handed over to the Juvenile justice officer. He will stay at a Juvenile home for a day after which he will again be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board tomorrow. The incident took place on April 4 when the victim, Sidharth Sharma, was crossing the road near Ludlow Castle School in North Delhi's Civil Lines area when a Mercedes hit him. The Delhi Police yesterday slapped graver charges - culpable homicide - on the juvenile driver after learning that he was a repeated offender and arrested his father for abetting the crime. A case of rash driving and causing death by negligence has been registered at the Civil Lines police station. The Class 12 student, who was allegedly driving the Mercedes, was arrested under laws for underage offenders but later released on bail. The teen was on a night out with six friends.
