'Mera Pass Behen Hai': Priyanka Gandhi's Twist To 'Deewar' Dialogue Ahead Of UP Election
In a video clip, a journalist is seen asking Priyanka Gandhi on rival parties' remarks that the Congress had been speaking about women in its rallies as it had no base left in Uttar Pradesh.
New Delhi: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reprised a popular dialogue from the Bollywood film "Deewar" on Wednesday to deny claims that her party had lost support in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, saying "Mere Paas Behen Hai" (I have sisters).
In a video clip uploaded by Priyanka Gandhi on her Twitter handle, a journalist is seen asking her on rival parties' remarks that the Congress had been speaking about women in its rallies as it had no base left in Uttar Pradesh.
Priyanka Gandhi responds by asking the journalist whether he had heard the conversation between Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor in the film Deewar. Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor play brothers in the movie.
"Amitabh tells Shashi Kapoor, 'mere paas gaadi hai, mere paas bangla hai, yeh hai, woh hai, toh Shashi Kapoor ne kaha, mere paas maa hai (I have a car, I have a bungalow... so Shashi Kapoor says, I have mother)," Priyanka Gandhi says in the video.
"Toh main keh rahin hun, mere paas behen hai (I have sister). Sisters will bring change in politics. Ladki hoon lad Sakti hoon," Priyanka says in a apparent reference to women in Uttar Pradesh.
