Former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti's Detention Under PSA Extended For 3 Months

PDP head Mehbooba Mufti, along with National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, his father Farooq Abdullah and hundreds of politicians were detained at the time of abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.

Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti under the Public Safety Act (PSA) since August 5, has been extended for three months.
According to the reports, the district magistrate of Srinagar handed over the brief order of continuation of her custody at her residence, hours before her present term under the PSA was to expire. Going by the latest development, she will have to spend another three months at her home before she is released.
Head of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, along with National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, his father Farooq Abdullah and hundreds of politicians were detained at the time of abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.
Booked under the stringent PSA, the former Chief Minister was initially kept at the Hari Niwas guesthouse in Srinagar and later shifted to a Tourism Department hut in the Chashma Shahi area.
From there, she was shifted to a government quarter in the transport yard lane in Srinagar. She was shifted to her Gupkar Road official residence on April 7.
Earlier this year in February, Mehbooba's daughter Iltija had moved a habeas corpus petition before the Supreme Court challenging her mother’s detention.
While Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah, also detained under the PSA were later released, other mainstream leaders including Shah Faesal, Naeem Akhtar and Ali Mohammad Sagar continue to remain under detention with PSA slapped on them.
