Digvijaya's phone number found in Maoists' letter recovered during raids, BJP claims

NEW DELHI: Charging the Congress of playing with the national security for political gains, the BJP on Tuesday claimed a letter recovered by the Maharashtra police in the recent raids against Left-wing activists had the contact number of former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijaya Singh. A letter was written by "Comrade Surendra to Comrade Prakash on September 25, 2017" contained a phone number which belongs to Digvijaya Singh, who is the "guru" of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told the media here. There's a "line" in the letter which reads that 'Congress leaders are very much willing to assist in this process and have also agreed to fund further agitations whenever such opportunities arrive, In this regard, you can contact our friend on this ..... number', he alleged. "Digvijay Singh hasn't clarified that it's not his number and thus, has accepted that it's his," he said. The Congress can go to any extent and play with the national security for politics, the BJP leader said. "He said "Confusion, Conspiracy and Congress" are synonyms, adding that the Congress party is behaving like the Congress party of Maoists. "There are some who have romanticised Naxalism within the Congress party. The biggest example of this was the National Advisory Council (NAC) by Congress, which was the brainchild of Sonia Gandhi and closest to her. That body was the ground for supporting Naxalism," Patra said. He alleged the Congress has always been double-faced on naxalism, as some opposed it while there are others within the party who have romanticised naxalism. "The National Advisory Council, the coterie of those who were closest to the then Congress president Sonia Gandhi, was the supporting ground for naxalities," Patra said. Patra also claimed that former union minister and Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had written a letter to the Maharashtra Government to release Mahesh Raut, an activist who was arrested in for his "naxal links". Accusing the Congress of having "so much love for convicted naxals", Patra alleged the party compromised the national security for way too long. Congress seeks court-monitored probe into letter "leak" by "Naxal-linked" communists Meanwhile, the Congress demanded a court-monitored probe into the alleged "leak" of the letter that Patra cited to blame the opposition party. Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari termed the matter "very serious". "There has to be an independent court monitored investigation, that even before the alleged papers are presented in a court of law, how come they become instruments of vilification in the hands of a blind BJP," he told reporters here. He said the BJP is "trying...to run a narrative, which they find will not be substantiated in a court of law." Tewari alleged that all norms and traditions of governance have collapsed under this NDA government. "It seems that the BJP has become the police in this country. How come papers which are allegedly with an investigating agency leaked. God alone knows whether they are true or untrue, correct, incorrect, for all you may know they may be fabricated and contrived planted papers," he said. Tewari wondered when the documents have not been presented in a court in the form of chargesheet, how come they are with the BJP. "This is what needs to be investigated. This is what fascism is all about. This is what an undeclared emergency is all about. This is when there has been a collapse of the Chinese wall which separates state from the political party," he said. (With inputs from PTI)
