Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi Highlights 'Nari Shakti', Lauds Women's Achievement In IAF, Railways & Oscars
The Prime Minister said that 5,000 cases of organ donation were registered in 2013 which has increased to more than 15,000 in 2022.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged people to come forward in more numbers for organ donation during his 99th episode of the monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat'. The Prime Minister said that 5,000 cases of organ donation were registered in 2013 which has increased to more than 15,000 in 2022.
During the programme, the PM talked to Sukhbir Singh and his wife Supreet Kaur from Punjab's Amritsar, whose daughter, Ababat Kaur became the youngest donor at the age of 39 days.
"Our daughter had a tumour in her brain and after fighting for many days, she passed away on the 39th day, but we thought there was some purpose for this baby to come to this world, so we decided to donate her organ," said Sukhbir Singh.
The Prime Minister higlighted the 'Nari Shakti' and lauded producer Guneet Monga and director Kartiki Gonsalves for bringing laurels to the country by winning an Oscar for their documentary 'The Elephant Whisperers'.
He also talked about Asia's first female loco pilot Surekha Yadav who has set another record of becoming the first woman loco pilot of Vande Bharat Express and made a mention about Jyotirmayi Mohanty, Scientist of Bhabha Atomic Research Center who notched another achievement for the country and received a special award from IUPAC in the field of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.
In Nagaland, for the first time in 75 years, two women legislators have reached the Vidhan Sabha through their victory, Modi said.

From women empowerment, the PM talked about India's solar mission. He narrated the practice adopted by the people of Pune's MSR-Olive Housing Society who, under the 'Sabka Prayas' initiative have decided to run things of common utility like drinking water, lifts and lights in society with solar energy only, generating about 90 thousand kilowatts hour electricty every year.
The PM said that Diu has become India's first district with 100% clean energy for all day time needs. The mantra of this success of Diu is also Sabka Prayas, he added.
Modi said the demand for lotus stem also known as 'nadru' in Kashmir has increased following which farmers cultivating Nadru in Dal Lake have formed an FPO. About 250 farmers have joined this FPO, and added around two and a half thousand farmers were cultivating lavender in Bhadarwah town in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district.
Towards the end of the programme, the PM asked everyone to take precautions in view of rising cases of Covid-19 and sought suggestions for his next,the 100th episode of Mann Ki Baat.
