Mahua Moitra Gets New Role In TMC Amid Lok Sabha Ethics Panel Probe
TMC MP Mahua Moitra has been appointed as the party's district president of Krishnanagar amid the Ethics Committee of Parliament adopting a draft report related to allegations of a 'cash for query' matter.
The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) announced on Monday that TMC MP Mahua Moitra has been appointed as the party's district president of Krishnanagar (Nadia North). Expressing gratitude towards Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Moitra pledged to work for the people of Krishnanagar: "Thank you @MamataOfficial and @AITCofficial for appointing me District President of Krishnanagar (Nadia North). Will always work with the party for the people of Krishnanagar".
This development unfolds amid the Ethics Committee of Parliament adopting a draft report related to allegations of a 'cash for Parliament questions' matter against Mahua Moitra. The committee's recommendations were reportedly submitted to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla last week.
According to Vinod Sonkar, Chairman of the Ethics Committee, the draft report, supported by six members and opposed by four, details fact-finding outcomes. Sonkar highlighted the 500-page report's comprehensive nature, acknowledging the contributions of committee members representing various political affiliations, news agency IANS reported.

While specific recommendations remain undisclosed, IANS cited sources as suggesting that committee members, including Sonkar, Saraswati, Sarangi, Godse, Kaur, and Roy, voted in favour of the draft report. Meanwhile, Ali, Yadav, Vaithilingam, and Natrajan opposed it. The investigation revolves around BJP MP Nishikant Dubey's allegations that Moitra received cash and favours for parliamentary questions, purportedly on behalf of businessman Hiranandani.
Moitra, along with opposition MPs, previously exited a committee meeting, accusing Chairperson Sonkar of posing inappropriate questions. On November 2, she criticised the Ethics Committee's scheduling conflict with Congress MPs' nomination date, implying BJP's maneuvering for majority support. Moitra additionally addressed a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, alleging mistreatment during the committee hearing.
Amidst these developments, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey revealed that Lokpal, based on his complaint, has ordered a CBI inquiry into Moitra's conduct.
